Our Remodel Vision
We had a vision for the first floor. We had about 7 weeks between taking possession of the house and closing on our condo. Time was ticking and we had to be clear and decisive. The natural light in this home is spectacular due to the east and west facing windows and the skylights. We wanted to accentuate the lightness of the space with light wood floors and a prettier white paint.
Our remodel wish list for the first floor of the house included the following:
- Refinish the hardwood floors using a water-based polyurethane. We wanted to bring out the natural look of the oak with out yellowing it with an oil-base polyurethane.
- Paint all wood trim, doors, walls and ceilings the same color of white. We chose Benjamin Moore simply white in matte.
- Update bathrooms with a new vanity, medicine cabinet, light fixture and tile.
- Install recessed lighting in the living room and hall.
It was quite the list but luckily for us we gave advance notice to a contractor we've used in the past. He was excellent and between him and the electrician, the items on the above to-do list were accomplished before we moved in.
Below are pictures of the end results. I'll discuss the kitchen remodel in a separate post.
The light wood floors look great with the matte white walls. Our art piece really pops in this setting. |

The recessed lighting transformed this room. The previous owners used floor lamps. We love the clean integration of recessed lighting in this space. LED, of course. |
